fans might be losing Damon Gupton for season 13 but it looks like he will be the only major exit. Deadline reports
that negotiations between Criminal Minds
actresses Kirsten Vangsness and A.J. Cook have come to close. The actresses have reached a deal with the studios behind Criminal Minds
and will return for season 13 as series regulars.
The end of negotiations bring to a close a years long struggle for Vangsness and Cook. The actresses were seeking parity with their male co-stars, which is something they have reportedly been looking for since 2013. As was previously reported
, while Vangsness and Cook reached a deal back in 2013 they were evidently willing to walk this time around if they didn't get paid as much as co-stars Joe Mantegna and Matthew Gray Gubler.
Reportedly, back in 2013, the two actress were being paid nearly half of what Shemar Moore and Matthew Gray Gubler were receiving. They managed to secure raises back then but it wasn't until now they were put on equal footing, when it comes to payment, with their male counterparts.
Vangsness and Cook have been with Criminal Minds since the very start. Cook has been a series regular for every season but season 6, which was due to some more contract disputes. Meanwhile, Vangsness started as a recurring star in season 1 but has been a series regular ever since season 2. Criminal Minds likely wouldn't be the same without either one of them so it is a good thing for everyone involved that they will be back for season 13.
Vangsness and Cook join a large swath of the cast who have already signed on to continue in season 13. Joe Mantegna and Matthew Gray Gubler have been previously mentioned to continue being series regulars. Season 13 will also see the return of Aisha Tyler, Paget Brewster and Adam Rodriquez. It really does appear that Damon Gupton will be the only series regular not on season 13.
Are you happy to know JJ and Penelope will be back for season 13? Were you ever worried that the two actresses wouldn't return? What do you think this means for the big deadly cliffhanger from the season 12 finale?
