The experiment of Once Upon a Time
season 7 has turned out to be a failure. The reboot season, which attempted to continue the story of several characters and introduce several others, after giving a majority a "happy ending," will be the show's last. TVLine

Once Upon a Time
was already on shaky footing when it announced that it would be doing away with most of its central cast after season 6. The show moved location, switched main characters and made a lot of other drastic changes for season 7, all in an effort to creatively reinvigorate the series.
While reviews were mixed on the creative success of the reboot, the ratings were much less ambiguous. Once Upon a Time moved from its usual Sunday time slot to Friday for season 7 and saw a big ratings drop, even compared to the show's downward slide of several years in its original iteration.
Still, ABC will allow Once Upon a Time to come to a proper end after seven seasons and attempt to wrap up its narrative. The series' co-executive producers and creators, Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis, promised that fans will be satisfied with how Once Upon a Time reaches its final happily ever after.
"Seven years ago, we set out to create a show about hope, where even in the darkest of times, a happy ending would always be possible," Horowitz and Kitsis said in a joint statement "But we never imagined the happy ending that was actually in store for all of us -- years and years of adventure, romance, magic and hope. We're so grateful to our brilliant collaborators -- the cast, crew and writers -- as well as our partners at the studio and network for making this journey possible. But most of all, we want to thank the fans. Their fierce loyalty and devotion was the real magic behind Once Upon a Time. We hope they join us for these last few hours as we journey to the Enchanted Forest for one more adventure."
It's unclear how many, if any, of the original cast members will return for the series finale. However, when Jennifer Morrison appeared as Emma Swan early in season 7, there was a tease that she would make at least one more appearance. Even if Once Upon a Time is in a brand new chapter it would be rather bizarre to end it all without the character who started the entire saga.
