Nick Viall sacrificed a lot for Disney Night on Dancing with the Stars
. The reality star ended what is perhaps his longest commitment yet -- the one he had with his beard. Nick, who has been growing (or has had some form of) his facial hair since Kaitlyn Bristowe's season of The Bachelorette
, shaved off his beard to play Pinocchio for Dancing with the Stars
. In an exclusive vlog with People
, Nick opened up about the transformation.
Dancing with the Stars Recap: The Magical World of Disney Night>>>
The move to Pinocchio is quite a tonal shift for Nick on Dancing with the Stars. Nick's Most Memorable Year dance had him cast in the role of the sexy romantic hero as he replayed his experiences on The Bachelor. Pinocchio is about as far from sexy leading man as someone can get. "The outfit I'm wearing, as you'll find out, is goofy and playful," he said in his vlog which was filmed before the episode aired. "Last week was obviously sexy and sensual with the rumba, and this week's jazz, and it's just playful and goofy."
As far as his dancing scores went, the move paid off as Nick earned his best scores of the season. Yet the Pinocchio transformation will last a little bit longer than one night as Viall is now beardless. It's not quite as disarming as it could have been since longtime Bachelorette
fans have seen Nick without a beard. Nick looks almost exactly as he did when he appeared on Andi Dorfman's season of The Bachelorette.
This is back
when he was a new face to reality TV watchers and not an almost constant presence.
Nick explained that he has gotten some "mixed reviews" for going back to his beardless look. It's easy to see why too. Nick's beard has been a very big part of his public persona and look. Nick has even launched a line of beauty products for men focusing on facial hair and grooming.

Nick's look does make him look younger and reminds fans of a more innocent time but that might not be for the best. Nick wasn't exactly beloved on Andi Dorfman's seaon of The Bachelorette. It's true that Nick didn't exactly get the most positive reviews for his season of The Bachelor but the general opinion was he was more boring than anything else. For Andi's season he was widely considered the villain.
The lack of beard also makes Nick look a bit too young. Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron told Nick he looked as if he was 12 during the Disney Night episode. The Pinocchio outfit and rosy cheeked make-up certainly didn't help that impression but Bergeron wasn't far off. Nick looks at least 10 years younger without his beard. Nick might not mind that since at 36 he is much closer to 40 than 20 but with a (possible) wedding on the horizon, an older look might be better.
But what do you think? Does the younger look work for Nick? Do you think he looks too young? Should he keep his beard shaved? Do you ever like Nick's beard or did you prefer his earlier clean-shaven look?
