The Fosters is coming to an end on Freeform in 2018, but the family's adventures won't be over for good. The network announced that the show will end after the conclusion of season 5, but they've also ordered a spin-off centered on two of the show's younger characters.

The Fosters returns for the second half of its fifth and final season on Tuesday, January 9 at 8/7c and will end with its 100th episode. But the show will return in the summer for a three-episode finale to wrap up all of the show's storylines and set up the new spin-off.

Freeform Sets Return Date for The Fosters>>>

In addition, Freeform has ordered 13 episodes for a new series that will be a spin-off of The Fosters. Set several years later, the new show will be centered around the young adult lives of Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez's Callie and Mariana. The two will move to Los Angeles as roommates where Callie will continue to focus on social work while Mariana will embark on a career in the tech world.

The spin-off is still in the early stages of development, but another member of the young cast of The Fosters may also join them as a series regular. The plans are for most of the show's major characters to make guest appearances on the new show, not unlike Fuller House.
